Wants, Not Needs

“The only way that we can live, is if we grow. The only way that we can grow is if we change. The only way that we can change is if we learn. The only way we can learn is if we are exposed. And the only way that we can become exposed is if we throw ourselves out into the open. Do it. Throw yourself.”

― C. JoyBell C

Since our birth, we have been needing and wanting. At first it’s mostly needs. We need food, shelter, caring. As we grow, so do our wants. More often than not, these wants grow out of proportion. we want more and more, despite what we get. And many times, our parents give in just to keep us happy. I just wanted to remind you all for not taking advantage of that. To keep our wants in check.

We don’t need our wants, so don’t want soo much. Want only as much as you need.

Without realizing, we are walking down a dark path where our wants overshadow who we really are.

So come to your senses. Keep yourself in check. Set realistic wants and be sure to want more only when you really need more. If you do want out of proportion, check if you really earned it. Only if you did do you deserve to get what you want.

Our wants go on increasing like an Amazonian Tree.

I hope that reading this post of mine, many of you realize the importance of the message I’m trying to pass. Be it you’re a parent or a child or a grand parent. It doesn’t matter. In all spheres, you have a role to teach and learn and spread this message in the best way possible.
We must grow in our lives more productively than just based on our wants. We must work hard to earn each reward. Only then will we realize it’s value. Only then will we learn to appreciate it’s value.

Life is growth. If we stop growing, technically and spiritually, we are as good as dead.

– Morihei Ueshiba

The key to growth is the introduction of higher dimensions of consciousness into our awareness.

– Lao Tzu

Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.

– George Bernard Shaw

So keep your self in check. Lest you end up as a smashed egg.

  4. A fine sentiment, Preetam, and nicely buttressed by the quote from O-Sensei. Change is also the essence of winning the fight, as the undefeatable founder of Aikido knew. Be well..

  5. Thanks for a great post and beautiful pictures. I really needed to read that today, because I think ambition may be compromising my happiness right now… Thx for the reminder! 🙂

    Great post, great pics!
You said a lot that’s worth rethinking, but I’ll be chewing on this for a while “Set realistic wants and be sure to want more only when you really need more”
    That’s heavy stuff …

  8. I have always been guilty of letting my wants overpower me sometimes. Thus, I really love the message your words and photos convey here. Sometimes, these are the kind of things that keep us grounded.

  9. I love the thought that we need to expose ourselves if we want to learn and grow and live. I’m feeling really stretched in this area of my life…to keep growing

  10. People don’t always realize what God wants us to know, He gives us this world full of beautiful places and He also gives us the air to breath and our life to experience the greatness of His Love for us expressed in everything that surrounds us. He just asks us to thank Him for all that and to remember that He will always want the best for us but the best is not always what we want and that’s why we don’t always get from Him what we ask for but what we need. May all the Glory be given to God! May He bless you all in His Divine Will!

  11. Very inspirational, I love the hena art, its beautiful. I like the egg analogy, very important, we’re always so caught up in wanting we forget who we are sometimes.

  12. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on wants versus needs. Very good reminder and one I wasn’t aware I needed….but apparently I do. 😉 Great photos, as well. Good work!

  13. What a great article. The more we give into our wants the more complex and unmanageable our lives become. May God grant us all grace to simplify in this world of crying complexity!
